The debut episode of “1 Of A Kind With RVD” is now available for everyone currently via Spotify.
My new podcast starring Rob Van Dam, “1 Of A Kind With RVD” dropped on Spotify on Monday at 4:20 PM ET and is now available to listen to for everyone. I’ve included some quotes from Rob as “Mr. Monday Night” touched upon a lot of topics. You can download the episode HERE. You can get a lot of the clips of the show at RVDPod.com.
On working with Jim Ross
“I like him a lot more now than I did back then. I was caught up, I was caught up in political warfare, which I pushed back against very much.”
“And, you know, he was part of the office. Him and Paul Heyman were kind of playing tug of war with me over who brought me in and who would get credit for it. And it was frustrating to me because I would talk to one and then I would happen to talk to the other one. And it was weird because they were like, you know, burying each other through me. And it was driving me nuts. But, also he was the money guy.
On seeing Brock Lesnar backstage at WWE Raw
“I saw Brock for a minute. He was leaving, you know, when I was kind of across the pass and, I said, ‘Hey, Brock,’ you know, and said hi to him. And man, he's bigger than I remember. He looked like a giant. Maybe he had cowboy boots on, you know, thinking about it right now.
“And he's just so big and jacked, I've always been a fan of his because look at him and he's so credible and so athletic, but that really stuck out in my mind.
“Like, dude, I've always said, you know, he fits the part. He's good for the business.”
On what Riddle and Kevin Owens told Rob backstage
“Matt Riddle and Kevin Owens was the first one to say, ‘Dude, the people are going to be pissed that you're not drafting yourself.’ I heard that several times afterwards.”
On The Sheik being his mentor.
“It wasn't like a school. It was really personal. Like three of us, maybe four once in a while, five of us worked out and we were like family. We ate with the Sheik. we ate dinner afterwards and stuff and we were taught so stiff just to squeeze each other and pull each other down and try to pin each other. And it was all about that.
Just gruff, like wrestling and protecting the business, you know? And so if he got scuffed up. Got a little bloody. That was awesome. That was good for the business. That's how we got trained. Other people quite different.
More on him and Sabu learning from The Sheik
“And we're both unique in different ways, but we have a lot in common, you know, as far as like The Sheik taught us to believe in what we're doing every moment. And it's something that's missing now because these guys now don't have The Sheik or even our mentality processed and taught into them. They just kind of watched us and took what they liked and then they're missing some stuff, you know, but that's the way it is. And I wouldn't have had it any other way.
“I'm glad that I went in and fortunate that I had The Sheik as my mentor.
